Professor Lowes has been consulting in teaching and learning since retirement in 2014 from the position as Vice-Rector Teaching and Learning at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU). After retirement she acted as Special Advisor in the office of the DVC Teaching and Learning, managing DHET grants, acting as Director of Community Engagement, and later as Director of the Institutional Academic Support until 2020.

A number of special projects were managed and completed for the University such as the development and establishment of the work-integrated and service learning model, community engagement policy and implementation and a blended learning policy for Sefago Makatho Health Sciences University. Over the last two years she has been privileged to chair the Task Team for the development of a training programme in Medical Sciences at the HPCSA. Also in the role of chairing External Programme Evaluations monthly for the Quality Enhancement Office at the NWU.

Professor Lowes maintained her relationship, established in the early 2000’s as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Technikon Pretoria, with Bone SA and the Centre for Tissue Engineering and served as Chairperson of the Board, Executive Director and Ethics Officer.

Obtaining a MBA as well as a Master’s degree in Health Science Education from Maastricht, assisted to a large extend in the management and design of the first problem-based learning (PBL) pharmacy curriculum in the country implemented at the new pharmacy school established at the Technikon Pretoria/MEDUNSA partnership in 2000. This allowed for an invitation as visiting professor to James Cook University in Townsville, Northern Australia assisting with a PBL curriculum for a newly founded pharmacy school.
