Alexia Michaelides is a registered nurse who qualified in Intensive Nursing Science in 1985 in Johannesburg. Began her transplant career in 1998 and in 2000 completed University of Barcelona’s Diploma in Transplant Procurement Management (TPM).  Currently works as regional manager at Netcare Transplant Division, Western and Eastern Cape and Free State. 

Alexia has published both locally and internationally and presented both in South Africa and overseas with oral presentations in Warsaw, Cardiff, Prague and San Diego. She is also a member of the European Transplant Coordinator’s organisation and serves as the National Key Member for South Africa.  Winner of Best Poster Presentation SATS 2019.

Alexia was recognised as a Fellow of the Academy of Nursing of South Africa in 2023 based on her contribution to nursing practice.  She continues to work actively in organ procurement and is the flight co-ordinator for the Organ Donor Foundation in a voluntary capacity.
