Temporary road closures or traffic delays
Please find below the proposed routes to the Indaba Hotel & Conference Centre for the SA Transplant Congress 2025. Kindly note that some roads will be affected by the Ride Joburg 2025 Cycling Event
We recommend planning your journey accordingly and allowing extra travel time to ensure timely arrival.
From the East (Germiston / Edenvale / Bedfordview)
- Exit the source suburb onto the R24/Albertina Sisulu Freeway heading west.
- Before entering the city-centre or affected closure zones, take the N12/N14 westbound corridor (which lies outside the core race loop) → proceed northwards avoiding the M1/Jan Smuts closure belt.
- Link from N14 north to the R114 (or similar peripheral route) heading toward Fourways.
- Enter the Fourways area via the R511/Winnie Mandela Drive or alternative north-facing arterial that bypasses the race-affected Witkoppen Road / R55 feeders.
From Pretoria / North-East Suburbs
- Take the N1 southbound from Pretoria.
- Before nearing the central Sandton/Pretoria–Johannesburg zone where closures occur, transition onto the N14 (or N4-N14 link) westwards around the periphery of the city.
- From N14, move onto the R114 or other non-closure feeder routes toward Fourways.
- Complete journey via R511/Winnie Mandela Drive or the designated Fourways access road, avoiding the race closure zones on Witkoppen Road/R55.
From Inner-City Loop Suburbs (Parktown, Greenside)
- Avoid Jan Smuts Avenue, M1/M2 corridors — these will be full closure zones.
- Use Oxford Road → Richmond / Rosebank → William Nicol Drive northwards.
- From William Nicol, turn onto R511 / Winnie Mandela Drive northbound into Fourways.
- Alternatively: Cedar Road north → Fourways Drive → R511, avoiding the main highway closure belt.
From the West / North (Roodepoort, Northcliff, Randburg)
- Take Beyers Naudé Drive (M5) north out of Roodepoort toward Honeydew.
- Continue onto Northumberland Ave / John Vorster Drive heading toward Malibongwe Drive (R512)—this road lies outside the main closure loop.
- Follow R512 south-east toward Fourways, turning onto Fourways Boulevard or William Nicol Drive (Winnie Mandela Drive) into the Fourways precinct
️ Route to O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB)
- Depart Indaba Hotel heading south via William Nicol Drive / Winnie Mandela Drive toward R511.
- Connect to the R114 eastwards (thus avoiding the M1 / Jan Smuts closure corridor).
- Join the N14 east / N12 east toward the airport, then merge via the R21 north/south depending on direction.
- Alternate: If closures force, go R512 / Malibongwe Drive southeast through safe suburban corridors, then catch R21 north toward the airport.
- Allow extra time due to event-day congestion.
Route to Lanseria International Airport (HLA)
- Depart Indaba Hotel heading northwest via William Nicol Drive / Winnie Mandela Drive to Fourways Boulevard.
- Turn onto the R511 northbound out of Fourways until the R512 / Malibongwe Drive link.
- Continue on R512 northwest toward Lanseria Airport, keeping to the outer arterial roads away from major event closure zones.
- This route is generally less affected by the cycle event closures than the inner-city corridors.

Key Travel Tips for Delegates
- Confirm departure time and check live traffic updates the morning of travel.
- Use GPS with “avoid major closures” enabled.
- Allow extra buffer time on event day; roads near Fourways and toward Sandton may still see residual traffic from race participants or support vehicles.
- For airport pickups or drop-offs, coordinate with drivers ahead of time about the event closure situation.
