Dr Moitheri Lephoi is a senior Cardiothoracic surgery registrar based in University of Cape Town, Chris Barnard Division of Cardiothoracic surgery with much interest in heart and lung transplant amongst other fields in Cardiothoracic surgery. He has a major interest in innovation and future research opportunities to advance diagnostic and surgical techniques. He holds a BSc with honors in Biology and Chemistry from the National University of Lesotho and has published research on using oils extracted from Khaki bush for managing inflammatory respiratory conditions like asthma.

Dr Lephoi has presented at multiple esteemed international congresses and recently participated in the Master Cup competition at the European Society of Thoracic Surgery in Budapest representing Africa who proudly came in second position. He continues further research at the University of Cape Town where he is also completing his Masters in Cardiothoracic surgery.

When not working, Dr Lephoi enjoys time with his beautiful wife and four wonderful children. He also enjoys a lot of outdoor activities, such as hiking and running. He is passionate about social causes and has since established a movement entitled ‘Running for the Gift of Life’ where he and, colleagues, previous organ recipients and living donors come together to raise awareness about organ donation and transplant. Together, they endeavor to achieve media coverage and more awareness by combining advocacy through running for the SA Transplant Society using big national races such as the Comrades Marathon.
